MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The 36-year-old man accused of raping a 96-year-old resident at a facility for people with Alzheimer's disease outside Mossel Bay, is still in custody.
The man is also accused of exposing himself to a 76-year-old resident at the facility, Adler's Nest in Aalwyndal.
He had worked at Adler's Nest as a handyman for the six months but was arrested at the property in September 2020 after the 76-year-old victim complained to management.
It is alleged the suspect stood outside the resident's bedroom window, committing the crime.
The police also found child pornography on his phone.
The owner of Adler's Nest, Hein Marx, instructed management to assist police by viewing the footage of the more than thirty closed circuit cameras on the property.
It was then that they found critical evidence of the rape.
The suspect now faces more than 12 charges and more may be added.
It is believed the child pornography was downloaded from the "dark net" and not photographed by the suspect himself.
The images are all of the same girl, who looks about eight years old.
Police do not know who the child victim is.
The suspect's name is being withheld until he pleads. He will appear in the Mossel Bay regional court on 18 May for consultation with his attorney. The defence will then have the opportunity to view the camera footage. A next court date will then be determined.
