Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The owner of the Wild Cat, who wants to remain anonymous, has expressed his gratitude to all those who assisted with the vessel after it washed ashore at Santos Beach, saying it ultimately became clear that the boat was a write-off and had to be removed.
However, in a message to the Mossel Bay Advertiser, he says he does not know where the Wild Cat currently is and has received no direct communication regarding its removal from Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA).
"I do not know where Wild Cat was taken to nor was I informed by anyone other than social media that Wild Cat was being removed."
He says he does not live in Mossel Bay and cannot travel due to personal reasons.
History
The Wild Cat was stranded on Santos Beach for more than two weeks after it had broken away from a mooring outside the Port of Mossel Bay.
After many attempts, the boat was finally removed on Sunday 16 August.
He says he had heard nothing further since the last letter he received from TNPA, which he previously forwarded to the Advertiser.
"I am compiling all information and searching for a good marine law attorney to start litigation," he says.
The owner had previously questioned why the Wild Cat was moved from its berth inside the harbour shortly before it broke away from a swing mooring and washed ashore.
According to information previously provided to the Advertiser, the vessel had been permitted to remain berthed in the harbour until 31 July while arrangements were being discussed for its relocation, inspections and repairs.
However, the owner said he was informed on 28 July that the vessel had to be removed from the harbour by the end of that day, after which it was moved to a swing mooring outside the harbour.
He has questioned whether the decision to remove the vessel from the harbour was made on the instructions of the TNPA.
TNPA confirmed to the Advertiser that the matter has been brought to its attention. "It is currently being addressed directly between the port authority and the vessel owner."
