MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The man accused of attempting to murder a young woman in a bathroom at the Little Brak River Beach on Women’s Day will spend another week behind bars until his bail application on 21 August.
Johnie Kamfer (53) allegedly attempted to strangle the woman (25) in the ablution block for disabled people at about 18:00 on 9 August.
The woman, whose job it was to lock the toilets for the night, had allegedly asked Kamfer, whom she reportedly knew and trusted, to accompany her while she finished her work for the night.
She had locked the men’s and women’s toilets; however, when they reached the bathroom for disabled people, Kamfer allegedly forced her inside and allegedly began strangling her with his hands.
The woman managed to escape and reported the incident to the Great Brak River Police, who arrested Kamfer within less than 24 hours.
Kamfer made his first appearance in the Great Brak River division of the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court last Friday, 14 August, when he heard that his bail application would be heard the following Friday.
