LITTLE BRAK RIVER NEWS - On Sunday 9 August, the day meant to celebrate women’s lives across the country, a 25-year-old woman from Little Brak River had to fight for her life instead.
It was about 18:00 on Sunday when this young woman, who was working at the public ablution facilities on Little Brak Beach, went to lock up the toilets for the night, as is part of her job.
She had allegedly asked a man (52) known to her and trusted by her to accompany her.
She locked up the men’s and women’s facilities; however, when they reached the toilets for people with disabilities, he allegedly forced the woman inside and assaulted her, and tried to strangle her with his hands.
The woman managed to escape the man’s clutches and fled the scene.
A Southern Cape Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, said a case of attempted murder was opened at the Great Brak River Police Station. The man was arrested in Power Town within 24 hours.
The man remains in custody and is expected to make his first court appearance soon.
