Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Following the alleged assault on Park Primary School’s grounds manager, Wessel van Dyk, on Sunday 16 August, the case against the alleged perpetrator will not be pursued in court.
The man arrested in connection with the assault was expected to appear on Monday 17 August.
However, according to a spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Eric Ntabazalila, the matter was not placed on the court roll at all, and therefore, the man never appeared on Monday.
Mossel Bay Advertiser was reliably informed that the matter will not be pursued due to new evidence that shed further light on the circumstances.
Following Sunday afternoon’s incident, Van Dyk was treated in a hospital for injuries to his face and body, as well as damage to his kidneys, all of which were sustained during the alleged altercation.
Moments after the incident with Van Dyk, the man left the scene and was reportedly involved in a car accident on Louis Fourie Road in Voorbaai.
The cause of this accident remains unclear.
