MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay and Hartenbos communities are mourning the loss of Alderman Petru Terblanche (DA), whose passing was confirmed by Mossel Bay’s mayor, Dirk Kotzé, in a video message shared on Facebook this afternoon, 21 October.
In the video, Kotzé pays tribute to Terblanche (74), stating that a “big cedar in our community has fallen”. Kotzé says he met Terblanche in 2011.
Terblanche, a long-time Hartenbos resident, served as a portfolio chairperson and as speaker within the Mossel Bay Municipal Council since 2011.
Over the last few years, he served as a councillor in the Garden Route District Municipality.
“Petru was a friend to me. We shared a birthday. He was also a mentor; I learnt a lot from him over the years. He was truly a resident of Hartenbos and Mossel Bay, a son of the soil,” says Kotzé.
The circumstances behind Terblanche’s passing are not yet known.
He leaves behind his wife, Bettie, two children, and a few grandchildren.
