MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Noluthando Mbuti (42), Zolani Gouws (43) and Lamla Zangqa (35) are facing a charge of premeditated murder following their arrest by the Da Gamaskop Police in connection with the murder of a man whose body was found in some bushes in an open field near Mountain View on 8 October.
Mbuti is believed to be the victim’s sister.
The three accused made a brief appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 20 October, when the bail proceedings commenced.
Mbuti, Gouws and Zangqa were arrested a few days after the victim’s body was discovered with stab wounds, prompting the Da Gamaskop Police to launch a murder investigation.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, the court heard that the State was opposing bail for all three accused.
Gouws and Mbuti have previous convictions. These include robbery, defeating the ends of justice, assault and providing false personal information.
The State also intends to proceed with a Schedule 6 bail application.
Under Schedule 6, an accused charged with a serious offence such as premeditated murder must demonstrate exceptional circumstances to be granted bail.
The matter was postponed to 10 November. All three accused will remain in police custody until then.
