MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Carpe Musicam! Orchestra and Choir hosted another memorable afternoon of music at the Mossel Bay Town Hall on Sunday 11 October, treating the Mossel Bay community to a Magnificent Movie Music concert.
The concert aligns with Mossel Bay Arts Month, which runs throughout October.
Under the direction of conductor Norman Carless, the audience was transported into the worlds of some of cinema’s most iconic films, bringing their unforgettable soundtracks to life.
The concert opened on a lively note with “Strike Up the Band”, immediately setting the tone for an exciting musical journey.
The programme continued with the beautiful theme song from Ladies in Lavender, followed by the timeless “Moonlight Serenade”.
The audience also entered the enchanting world of The Sound of Music, before moving into the suspenseful atmosphere of Where Eagles Dare and the adventurous sounds of The Mask of Zorro.
A highlight throughout the showcase was the orchestra’s ability to capture the different emotions associated with film music.
The bass, drums, trumpets, flutes, violins and other instruments created a rich, varied sound. Each change in rhythm, volume and instrumentation painted a picture, allowing listeners to imagine the scenes unfolding on a cinema screen.
The afternoon concluded on a cheerful note with “Under the Sea” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Its lively rhythm and playful character provided a fitting finale to a concert of exciting storytelling.
As always, pianist Elsabe Barkhuizen was behind the event’s planning.
Carpe Musicam! will present two Christmas concerts featuring its Pops Band, orchestra and choir at the Bartolomeu Dias Museum on 29 November and 13 December.
Bookings for both Christmas concerts can be made online at www.carpemusicam.co.za.
