MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Nearly 100 knitting and crochet enthusiasts gathered at a restaurant in Great Brak River on Saturday 15 August to celebrate International Granny Square Day.
This local get-together was organised by the Wolslim Henne crochet group, and ladies and gents from various knitting and crochet groups brought along their wool and crochet hooks for a day of creativity.
About 1 500 crochet granny blocks were donated for the occasion. These will be joined together and made into blankets and other useful items.
Among the displays on Saturday was a granny square blanket more than 60 years old.
The gathering highlighted not only the creativity and skill behind crochet, but also how small pieces of wool can be transformed into meaningful gifts for people in need.
