MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Volunteers of the Visit Kwa Clean-up Campaign spent a sweltering afternoon clearing out waste from a dumping hotspot next to Maqabangqa Street in KwaNonqaba on Sunday 30 November.
This was round two of this campaign, the first being held near Barcelona Circle in KwaNonqaba on 19 October.
The campaign's organiser, Walter Blaq, said though the team was much smaller during the second clean-up, he still con-sidered the day a success.
"We were 15 people in total. Small in number, but heavy in effort. What stood out for me was the heart and commitment of the few who showed up," said Blaq.
"We worked hard, we sweated, and we pushed through the heat, but the spirit was there. It reminded me that real change never starts big, it starts with the willing."
Blaq said they chose the spot next to Maqabangqa Street because it affects the people living in the area, especially those closest to it.

"We spent just over three hours on the site. It was intense work, because the sun was strong, but we pushed through until we saw visible progress. We managed to fill and remove two full skips, and even that skip showed us how big the dumping challenge still is."
The Mossel Bay Municipality had joined the first Visit Kwa Campaign, and also this one. It said seven workers from its street- cleaning department and some open space contractors had joined forces to tackle the waste in the area.
The municipality confirmed the removal of the two skips and added that it had supplied gloves, masks and bales of refuse bags for the second instalment of this campaign.
Blaq added there would be a third clean-up in the future, stating that the campaign is not a once-off movement.
"This is continuous community work. We want the community itself to eventually lead these clean-ups, and we will continue pushing for residents' involvement and partnerships.
"Visit Kwa isn't about politics, it's about restoring dignity, building unity, and reminding the people that KwaNonqaba is part of Mossel Bay, too. Let's clean it, protect it, and love it together," he said.
