MOSSEL BAY NEWS - After almost 16 years in the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Mossel Bay Police said goodbye to Surina Hendricks, a level 5 AVL (automatic vehicle location) co-ordinator for the Garden Route District.

Hendricks joined the police in 2010. 

Her journey first began with the Da Gamaskop Cluster Office, but in 2021, she was offered the opportunity to serve as the secretary to the district police commissioner, Major General Phumzile Cetyana, in George.

Two years later, she was transferred to the Mossel Bay Police Station, where she has now concluded her career in the service.

Originally from Macassar in Cape Town, Hendricks fell in love with Mossel Bay when she visiting the town. 

She later decided to relocate here with her family, and found herself working closely with several wonderful colleagues over the years.

"Especially in my capacity as AVL co-ordinator, I had the privilege to give in-service training not only to the members of the police, but also to senior management. Those moments reminded me that policing is about putting people first," she says.

Her time in the service was both rewarding and challenging. "It taught me discipline, teamwork and how to stand firm in my faith, even in tough situations. I forged lifelong friendships with men and women who have become my family. We leant on one another. That bond doesn't end with retirement."

Hendricks says although she is now retired, she knows in her heart the goal is to always keep serving her community. 

She will be focusing on her work in the ministry, spending time with her family and engaging in community work through CPF structures.

"I believe God is not finished with me yet," she says.
