MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The 49-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of a man and woman on Saturday 8 November has been discharged from hospital and is expected to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 11 November.
He was taken to hospital on Saturday after he had been found in the KwaNonqaba area with chest wounds, which, according to a previous statement by the Southern Cape Police’s spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, were believed to have been self-inflicted.
Spies said in a statement today, 10 November, that the man had been discharged from hospital yesterday evening, 9 November. He will remain in police custody until his expected court appearance.
Spies previously told Mossel Bay Advertiser that the KwaNonqaba Police had been dispatched to a scene in Mfuleni Street, KwaNonqaba, just after 09:30 on Saturday after some community members had called them to report seeing a man with knife leaving a house in that street.
When the police arrived, they found the body of a 43-year-old man. Emergency medical services declared him dead on the scene.
The police were then called to another house in Bantom Street, where the body of a 46-year-old woman with stab wounds to her neck and arms was found. She, too, was declared dead.
The suspect was found shortly afterwards and arrested. He spent the evening in hospital under police guard.
Spies said the motive for the two murders is still under investigation.
