MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Caesar, a loveable hound who was raped, allegedly by a 22-year-old man, is set to return home to his Ext 8 family soon.
He has spent almost a week at the Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) Mossel Bay branch for a full examination, the collection of forensic samples, and time for him to recover from the ordeal.
A Southern Cape Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, informed Mossel Bay Advertiser that the incident had occurred on Tuesday 16 June.
The Da Gamaskop Police are investigating a case of bestiality; however, the matter has since been transferred to the Mossel Bay Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
The GRSPCA Mossel Bay branch had posted a video on its Facebook page on Friday 19 June regarding the incident, in which field officer Luciano Bayi said Caesar's owner and some other witnesses had allegedly witnessed the incident.
Caeser was taken to a veterinarian for a full examination, and a rape kit was obtained from the police to collect forensic samples.

The SPCA added that Caesar had to be sedated for the exam to be conducted, as he was in a lot of pain. When the Advertiser visited the SPCA on Monday 22 June, Caesar seemed to have recovered. He was full of energy and ready to receive all the attention from the SPCA staff.
The accused had appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on Thursday 18 June. He was released from police custody on a warning, and the matter was postponed to 17 July.
