MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A 22-year-old Mossel Bay man accused of allegedly committing an act of bestiality involving a dog named Caesar in the Ext 8 area of Mossel Bay has been released on a warning.
The suspect made an appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court last Thursday, 18 June, after Caesar’s owners had reportedly opened a case of bestiality at the Da Gamaskop Police Station. The court released him from police custody on a warning.
The matter has since been transferred to the Mossel Bay Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
The Garden Route SPCA Mossel Bay branch had posted a video on its Facebook page on 19 June regarding the incident, on which field officer Luciano Bayi said Caesar’s owner and some other witnesses had allegedly witnessed the incident. Caeser was taken to a veterinarian for a full examination, and a rape kit was obtained from the police to collect forensic samples.
The SPCA added that Caesar had to be sedated in order for the exam to be conducted, as he was in a lot of pain.
Caesar is still at the SPCA and will return to his owners as soon as he has recovered.
The suspect is set to appear in court again on 17 July.
