MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The popular Trans Agulhas inflatable boat challenge will again visit Mossel Bay this year.
Hosted in town for the past 16 years, the race is a popular seasonal event that attracts competitors and spectators from across the country.
Mossel Bay is a key stop in the race as it forms the initial assembly point for all competitors and race organisers for the three days running up to the event. The race will again start in Plettenberg Bay on 28 December and will end on New Year's Day in Gordon's Bay harbour after five days of gruelling ocean racing.
After the start of the race in Plettenberg Bay, the first leg enters the Mossel Bay area at checkpoints at Glentana, Great Brak River and Little Brak River and it finishes at Santos Beach.
Following the start of the second leg of the race on 29 December, the boats will call on a checkpoint at Vleesbaai before leaving the Mossel Bay waters.
Some 40 inflatable boats are expected to participate in this year's race. The event is enjoyed by residents and holiday makers alike. Council voted unanimously to grant the municipal manager permission to consider and approve future applications for the use of municipal facilities such as the Van Riebeeck sports stadium that is used for accommodation.
