MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay’s Sussex Cricket Club experienced a weekend filled with outstanding performances, hard-fought contests and plenty of talking points, highlighted by commanding victories for Sussex A and C, as well as the Sussex Ladies.
The A team delivered a dominant all-round performance to secure a victory over Knysna.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the team posted a competitive 235/8 in their allotted 50 overs.
The innings was anchored by Kevin Gibson, who struck a fluent 50 off 47 balls, while Heath Richards added valuable momentum with a brisk 36 off 31 deliveries.
Knysna began its chase with intent, but the Sussex bowling attack soon tightened its grip. Franco Geldenhuys produced a superb spell of 4/23 in 10 overs, applying relentless pressure, before Chad Mono ripped through the middle order with a devastating 3/4 in just 3.3 overs. Knysna was eventually bowled out for 151 in 30.3 overs.
Heartbreak for Sussex B in semi-final
It was a tougher afternoon for Sussex B, who bowed out in the reserve league II semi-finals despite showing fight and determination.
Knysna B won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that paid dividends as they posted 255 all out in 39.1 overs. Sussex found themselves under pressure early in the chase, slipping to 30/2 after eight overs.
Despite the uphill task, Ashley Lawrence showed great character with a fighting 50, but the innings struggled to build momentum. Sussex was eventually dismissed for 118, bringing the semi-final campaign to an end.
While it wasn’t their day, the commitment and effort shown throughout the season deserves recognition, and the team can hold their heads high.
Sussex C into finals
The C team secured a well-earned victory over the Calitzdorp Young Stars A and booked their place in the reserve league II final.

The match was set up by an extraordinary bowling performance from Anrich Geradus, who tore through the opposition with astonishing figures of nine wickets for 20 runs in just 5.3 overs. His spell left the opposition in disarray and Sussex firmly in control.
In reply, Sussex C showed composure and intent, chasing down the target in just 13 overs to seal the deal.
Ladies deliver clinical display
The Sussex Ladies produced one of the remarkable performances of the weekend, delivering a ruthless all-round display against Knysna.

The Sussex bowlers were in complete control, dismissing Knysna for a mere 43 runs. Leading the charge was Chani Damons, who produced a standout spell of 6/18 in eight overs, combining accuracy, consistency and relentless pressure. She was well supported by the rest of the attack, who maintained control throughout the innings.

Sussex made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 7.1 overs and underlining their dominance in all departments.
All eyes now turn to a top-of-the-table clash as Sussex A take on Pacaltsdorp A this weekend in what promises to be a thrilling contest at the Cavaliers Oval in Pacaltsdorp.
