LITTLE BRAK RIVER NEWS - The driver of a minibus taxi was arrested during a traffic stop on the R102 in Little Brak River on Wednesday 1 July, for driving under the influence as well as for the possession of 100 Mandrax tablets.
According to a statement from the Office of the Western Cape Minister of Mobility, Isaac Sileku, today, 2 July, some provincial traffic officers stopped a suspicious minibus taxi.
“They detected a strong smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath.
A breathalyser test recorded a reading of 0.66mg/L, nearly three times the legal limit for professional drivers. The driver was immediately arrested,” reads the statement.

While the officers were processing the arrest, the vehicle’s owner and three other men arrived on the scene.
One of them reportedly tried to retrieve the driver’s licence under the supervision of the officers, and was seen attempting to remove a concealed package from the driver’s pocket.
The officers intervened, and recovered a plastic packet containing the Mandrax.
The driver was taken to the Great Brak River Police Station and faces charges of driving under the influence and possession of illegal drugs.
