Van Dyk was President of the Aurora Rotary Club in Benoni, Gauteng from 2005 to 2006.
During the formal event, hosted at Cafe Gannet, the Presidents of the Rotary Interact Clubs, representing six local high schools, Point, Indwe, Sao Bras, Hillcrest, Curro and Great Brak, were also inducted.
This is a tangible legacy left by outgoing President Claire du Plessis, who as an educationist has a passion for the youth. Mossel Bay is currently regarded as one of the towns in the region leading the way in having the most established Interact Clubs.
Incedently, this is also an all girl group, with Van Dyk's daughter, Danél being amongst them, representing Curro Interact Club.
In her mayoral address, Alderlady Marie Ferreira could not help but comment on this and jokingly commend the youths with a cheeky encouragement 'you go, girls!'
In her farewell speech, outgoing President Claire du Plessis said that she was looking back on an incredibly rewarding year, during which she was privileged to lead people who are leaders in their own right.
She described Rotarians as people with their hearts in the right place, their main aim being to do good.
In his induction speech, Van Dyk referred to various ways that the Rotary theme for 2014/2015, 'Light up Rotary', will be implemented through sustaining and growing the projects of the local club.
Members of the incoming board were also announced as: Fiona Williamson (Vice President, Secretary and Club Services), Claire du Plessis (Past President and Youth Services), Samantha Phiri (Treasurer), Geoff van Rensburg (Fundraising), Yolandi Lombard (Commuity Services) and Andries Potgieter (International and Vocational).
"I am of opinion that the Rotary Club of Mossel Bay has proved their staying power through sustainable projects. Therefore, I am truly grateful to have a group of people with such a heart for service to others in Mossel Bay," said Alderlady Ferreira.
