MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Staff at Mossel Bay Police Station and at the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court bade farewell to a long-time colleague who retired at the end of June.
Warrant Officer Selwyn Hilton Losper started working at the Mossel Bay Police Station in 1987.
At the age of 60, Losper retired from the police after a 40-year career.
Court
Losper was based at the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court, with the role of police commander of the court orderlies. He spent 33 years working at the court.
He joined the then Railway Police on 18 April 1984 and attended the Railway Police Training College in Esselen Park, Pretoria, from 1985.
During 1987, the Railway Police were incorporated into the general police force.

Losper has had an impressive athletic career in his personal capacity and in the police.
He represented the South African Police internationally at the SARPCCO Games. These are sports competitions in which police officers from member countries of the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation Organisation (SARPCCO) compete.
Losper tested his prowess in half marathons, cross country and the 5 000 metres.
He competed in these three events for the first time in 2005 in Pretoria, for the second time in 2007 in Zimbabwe and the third in 2011 in Brazzaville, the capital of the Congo.
Sportsman of the year
He has won the Mossel Bay Police Station sportsman of the year award several times.
This year Losper ran his 34th Two Oceans Marathon over 56km in a time of four hours, 49 minutes and his 33rd Comrades Marathon in a time of eight hours, 55 minutes.
He won a Bill Rowan medal, which is awarded to Comrades runners who complete the race in under nine hours.
Losper's best Comrades time was six hours, 32 minutes. He came 92nd overall in this race.
When he resigned from the police services at the end of June, Losper was based at the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court, with the role of police commander of the court orderlies.
He spent 33 years working at the court.
'Got on well'
Losper said this week: "It was a pleasure to work with the people at court. I got on well with the magistrates and prosecutors."
A member of Nedbank Running Club, Losper says: "Now that I have retired from the police, I would like to get involved with the development of young sports people."
A staunch family man, Losper provided Mossel Bay Advertiser with a photograph of his family. He is looking forward to spending quality time with his loved ones now that he has retired.
