MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay is celebrating Tourism Month (September) with a convoy headed to Cape Town.
On World Tourism Day, Saturday 27 September, Mayor Dirk Kotzé and the Mossel Bay Tourism team marked the occasion by loading a Route 12-branded tautliner truck with goods from the region’s 12 “towns”, which will be delivered to the Mother City.
Route 12 is made up of Vleesbaai, Fransmanshoek, Boggomsbaai, Danabaai, Mossel Bay and Hartenbos to Kleinbrak, Grootbrak, Glentana, Friemersheim, Ruiterbos and Herbertsdale.
Kotzé and the tourism team will take a convoy of two branded trucks and Route 12 vehicles to the Cape Town City Hall, where he will meet Alderman James Vos, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth and Tourism on Tuesday 7 October.
According to a statement release by tourism, the initiative serves as a heartfelt thank you to the City of Cape Town and Western Cape for their involvement in turning Mossel Bay into one of South Africa’s standout tourism destinations.

Lieschke Steven-Jennings, COO of Mossel Bay Tourism, said: “Most towns mark Tourism Month by promoting special attractions within their area. But this year, we are doing things differently – we’ll be celebrating both within the area and by taking the celebration outside of our borders to share it with the province and Cape Town in particular.
“But more than that, this meeting is about paying tribute to the Western Cape and the City of Cape Town for the vital role they have played in our tourism success.”
Route 12 was launched last year whereafter five trucks were kitted out in Mossel Bay branding and took to the highways. These trucks have been travelling up and down South Africa ever since.
