MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay magistrate Ezra Morrison has opened a criminal case against News24's Karyn Maughan and Kelly Anderson.
On enquiry from Mossel Bay Advertiser, police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said the case was laid at Mossel Bay Police Station in George Road.
The Advertiser asked who the investigating officer was and whether a court date was set yet, but Spies responded simply: "Mossel Bay Police are investigating a case of crimen injuria, opened on 30 October 2024."
Spies noted: "The investigation is still under way. The police are therefore unable to divulge the particulars of persons involved or any information pertaining the investigation at this stage."
According to the News24 website, Morrison's laying the complaint with police is "following a series of articles exposing how she apparently ignored early warnings from experts that the boy now accused of Deveney Nel's murder was 'at high risk for offending' and might need professional help".
The murder of schoolgirl Deveney Nel (16) of Grabouw at the hands of a fellow learner stunned the Western Cape.
The News24 website states that "Morrison wants Maughan - a veteran legal journalist, and Anderson - who was News24's audience engagement editor at the time of the articles in question, criminally prosecuted for crimen injuria".
