MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Residents, businesses and holidaymakers in the Great Brak River and Glentana areas have been called to reduce water immediately.
The Mossel Bay Municipality made the urgent call yesterday afternoon, 29 December, stating that the current demand is placing severe strain on the local supply systems.
It said responsible consumption is critical to ensure continued service during the festive season.
The municipality has asked the public to limit showers to between two and three minutes, to avoid filling or topping up swimming pools, refrain from washing boats, vehicles or pavements with municipal water and to use grey water for gardens wherever possible.
It further urged the public to use water only for essential purposes such as cooking, drinking and cleaning for hygiene and health.
"The water treatment works serving the Great Brak Rive and Glentana area is currently operating at maximum capacity, but the demand in the area is currently exceptionally high. Without urgent reductions in consumption, residents and visitors risk experiencing low pressure, interruptions, and service outages," it said.
