MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Writing her final exams while pregnant was no easy feat, however, Garden Route High School matriculant Emihle Nkani said her biggest challenge to overcome was all the people who had discouraged her from completing her matric.
Nkani gave birth to her little baby boy, Logan, on 31 December, and proudly showed him off to her fellow classmates of 2025 when she came to the school to get her final exam results on 13 January.
She had passed.
"The year really started off rocky. It was tough academically, emotionally and physically, because I was pregnant," Nkani told Mossel Bay Advertiser.
"There were many people who had discouraged me from my schoolwork during the year, but I actually then used all of that to encourage myself and prove them wrong. Their negativity was my stepping stone to pushing through."
Nkani said her final exams went well, English being her favourite subject to write and maths literacy being the worst.
She said now she has her results, she has plans to continue her education and to become a teacher.
"I want to give other young people hope and guidance. I want to help empower the youth," she said.
When asked her advice to any other young mothers who might face similar circumstances, she said: "Use people's discouragement as encouragement. You will thank me later."
She added that both she and little Logan are healthy and happy.
