MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve (GCBR) is calling on artists to take up an exhibition spot at this year's Inheems (Indigenous) Art Festival, which will be held in Riversdale from 5 to 6 of September.
The festival will be split into two events, the Inspired by Nature art exhibition for professional artists in the area, and the Inheems teen art competition.
While the Inspired by Nature exhibition calls for artists from the Mossel Bay municipal area, Kanaland region, Oudtshoorn, Hessequa and Swellendam, the teen competition will only look at young artists from the Hessequa region.
The organisers are looking at expanding the teen competition to other areas next year.
The GCBR's Antonnet Botha said artists who wish to exhibit their work at the festival should submit their pieces for review and they will then hear if the pieces have been accepted or not.
Submissions should be inspired by the indigenous flora and fauna of the GCBR.
She said the purpose of the exhibition was to showcase local artists, give them a platform to show others the pieces they create and hopefully help them to inspire others.
Botha added that the festival is also to inform attendees about the indigenous flora and fauna in the area.
She said that 25% of sales will be donated to GCBR conservation and 5% will go to the Hessequa Art Route.
To submit your pieces for exhibition or to find out more about the festival, email friends@gouritz.com.
Submissions should include an image of the artwork, its title and dimensions. All work should be sent by 15 August.
