MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Advertiser has received a number of letters complaining about bad service at the municipal traffic offices when people go to renew their vehicle licences.
Mossel Bay Municipality was approached for comment to answer people’s complaints.
Municipal spokesperson Nickey le Roux said:
“The municipality apologises for the inconvenience clients are experiencing when having to queue to meet the end of August deadline for overdue vehicle and driver’s licences.
“The municipality calls on the public to queue from early in the morning as the service is only available until early afternoon to allow the personnel sufficient time to cash up and responsibly manage the cash received for the day, as per the prescribed regulations.
“The municipality is dependent upon the national government’s online systems to conclude the transactions and can only serve as many clients as the system allows.
“Additional arrangements were made to make dedicated cashiers available for the bulk renewals by dealers and/or commercial entities who queue on their clients’ behalf. Unfortunately, with driver’s licences, there is hardly a chance of escaping the queues due to the required eye tests.
“The municipality has often in the recent past communicated the details for online renewals of motor vehicle licences, and urges the public to skip the queues by using the available technology to their advantage."
