MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - Darius Rossouw of Hartenbos had a birthday party with a difference last week.
It was a lockdown drive-by party and when the Mossel Bay Advertiser popped by, his eyes were sparkling and he was dashing around, having enormous fun, as any boy would on his fifth birthday.
This was even though he had to wear a mask and keep a 1.5 metre distance from people. His mom, Lize-Mari said: "The party was different but he loved it. It's something he will remember for the rest of his life."
There was a large bunch of balloons outside the house and Darius had a special prop - a colourful hardboard "cut-out" car that one could sit behind so guests could have a picture taken before they drove off again. The guests dropped off a gift and were given a generous party pack. Attached to the outside of the pack was the gift of a face mask and inside were LEGO as well as sweets and crisps.
Darius had a chocolate birthday cake with sweets - Smarties - on top.

He is in Grade RR at Hartenbos Primary School and a highlight was that his teacher, juffrou Elma, also drove by and dropped off a gift for him.
It must be said, there was much hooting from the cars in the drive-by in this residential area, but one is sure the neighbours understood it was a special occasion on Thursday, 28 May.
A challenge was that it started raining and the "props" and party packs in paper bags had to be taken inside.
When a car came someone had to run out into the rain to "deliver" the party pack.
Among the gifts Darius received were LEGO, money, clothing, adventure men and from his mom and dad, a toy BB gun.
