BUSINESS NEWS - In a small workshop, the gentle hum of sewing machines blends with the soft murmur of conversation. Hands move with purpose, threading needles, cutting fabric, and shaping something beautiful.
This is the heart of Wild Mongoo, a female-run NPO in South Africa dedicated to helping vulnerable women off the streets and into a place of safety, creativity, and independence.
This Women’s Month, we’re reflecting on how something as simple as crafting can change lives, and dotsure.co.za is proud to stand beside them in this mission.
Crafting as a Path to Healing
Neuroscience tells us that creative acts can rewire the brain, easing stress and supporting trauma recovery. For the women of Wild Mongoo, making something with their own hands restores dignity.
“Crafting means a lot to me. It makes me feel special,” says Angeline, whose journey with Wild Mongoo has been one of rediscovery and growth. “I feel that I’m also capable of doing great things. Like there are no limits.”
Kaylin adds, “Proud, satisfied, privileged, and energised. That’s how I feel when I look at something I’ve made.”
Each piece crafted is confidence, dignity, and empowerment being sewn back together.
Sisterhood Through Stitching
Beyond the craft tables, a deeper connection grows. Women here find not only skills but also sisterhood, moulding a network of compassion, understanding, and encouragement.
“They’re my family,” says Bettie. “I look up to the other women here.”
For Kaylin, the sense of belonging has been transformative: “I see being part of Wild Mongoo as my second chance at life. It brings back hope.”
These bonds are a vital part of the healing process, proving that empowerment in the workplace often starts with community.
Sisterhood in action. Beyond new skills, women also find family, joy, and strength in one another.
From Creativity to Economic Empowerment
Every item crafted, from pet beds to a pair of earrings, has the potential to bring income. Turning creativity into a livelihood is one of Wild Mongoo’s most powerful tools for change.
“I’ve learnt that I’m worthy and can stand up for myself,” Kaylin reflects. “I’ve learnt how to provide for myself.”
Economic empowerment offers financial security, but it’s also about having the ability to make your own choices.
Empowerment in Action
When asked what empowerment looks like, Angeline answers: “To motivate and encourage someone. To listen to them and provide a safe space to be vulnerable.”
This safe space is exactly what Wild Mongoo provides, uplifting women in the workplace in ways that bring lasting change.
A pink beacon of hope. Wild Mongoo inspires creativity, growth, and second chances.
Looking Ahead
The women of Wild Mongoo dream big. A home for their children. A bigger, safer space. More branches across South Africa to “save more women,” as Kaylin puts it.
These hopes are stitched into every project, every lesson, every shared laugh. As Bettie reminds us, “Difficult times will always end. We should support each other.”
Standing Beside Women Who Bring Hope
With the right tools, skills, and community to thrive, these women finally have the opportunity rebuild their own lives. They bring hope to others, and that’s the very definition of a Soft Landing.
