MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Mossel Bay woman is one of 10 women countrywide, chosen for a TV series featuring those who have battled or are battling breast cancer.
Lizette de Kock, of Extension 23, is a librarian at the Greenhaven Library in Great Brak.
In August, Lizette shared her breast cancer survival story with the Afrikaans magazine, Lig. It appeared as an article on the magazine's website.
Her story was spotted and she was selected to appear on the show, Herman en die Ladies. The host is Herman Lensing, well-known chef and writer of six cook books. He is the Sarie magazine food editor and editor of Sarie Kos, the food-specific publication by the magazine.
See Lizette on Herman en die Ladies tomorrow, Wednesday 13 September, on VIA TV, on DStv channel 147
Each of the 10 women has an episode in the series and Lizette's episode comes second. The first episode of the series was on 6 September.
The show is on Wednesdays at 18:00 and repeats are Tuesdays at 22:30.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The series will be running during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Lensing treats the women with his beautiful, mouth-watering baked creations and each woman is given a make-up and style makeover. The women get to speak about their cancer experiences.
Lizette will be turning 40 on 1 October.
She had a mastectomy in January 2021. "That's how I started that New Year," she told Mossel Bay Advertiser.
"I had a lump in my breast, which grew really quickly. My husband told me I should go to the doctor."
The couple have two children - a girl and a boy.
The show was filmed in Cape Town.
"They booked me a flight. I was very nervous on set, but they give you a chance - they cut and began scenes over again.
"It was really something to experience. Now I understand how people feel, acting in 7de Laan. It was great. Herman's food was really nice. I enjoyed it thoroughly, although I was nervous."
Lizette was given an elegant yellow dress as part of the makeover. Humble and softly spoken, Lizette says she felt happy and fortunate to be able to keep it.
Lizette de Kock is third, in the top row.
