SPORT NEWS - Mossel Bay played host to a display of youthful talent on Saturday 1 November as the Best View Fencing Invitational Squash Tournament brought together some promising squash players from the region.
The event featured a 16-player Swiss pairing format, guaranteeing every participant four hard-fought matches. The high standard of play produced a series of nail-biting encounters and rallies that kept spectators glued to the action.
The day culminated in a gripping five-game final, as Giovanni Pieterson (13) of Voorwaarts Primary in Riversdale claimed the championship title against Arnoux Rossouw (13) of Vorentoe Primary in Great Brak. These two players took the first and second place in the A section, and Lohan Abrahams (12) - also of Voorwaarts in Riversdale - took third.
The B section winners are Nicole Marais (12, winner) of Vorentoe Primary, Ulrich van Hirtum (10, runner-up) also of Vorentoe, and Malan van der Merwe (9, third) of George Preparatory.

As a token of appreciation for their efforts, each player received a goody bag and T-shirt. The tournament was sponsored by Best View Fencing, and Leandri van Onselen was on hand to represent the company and celebrate the young athletes’ dedication.
