MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Louis Oosthuizen from Mossel Bay entered the fourth round of the British Open today still in the lead, but by only one shot.
Yesterday, he started off two shots ahead.
It was a low scoring day at the Royal St George's Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, in England, yesterday. Golfers complained that the pin locations made the game extremely difficult, although it was played in warm weather – a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, with little wind, so it had been expected the scores would be high.
At one stage yesterday, four South African golfers including Oosthuizen, were in the top five, but besides Oosthuizen, they fell away.
At the start of play today, Oosthuizen was 12 under par with a score of 198, Collin Morikawa of the United States, aged only 24 years, was on 11 under with 199 and the States’ Jordan Spieth was nine under on 201.
The next South African in the line-up was Dylan Frittelli, tied in six place with two others, at seven under par, with a score of 203. SA's Justin Harding is tied in ninth place, six under, with a score of 204.
Today, round four, is the final day of the British Open. South Africans Dean Burmester and Daniel van Tonder are tied in 33rd place.
Oosthuizen is affectionately called King Louis. Hopefully this is prophetic and he will win today and lift the coveted Claret Jug. The Open has a purse of $10 750 000.
