NATIONAL NEWS - South Africans will soon have to fork out a substantial amount more to cover their electricity bills.
The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) announced yesterday that it had approved an average tariff increase of 12,74% for Eskom direct customers and 11,32% for municipalities.
The increase will hit Eskom’s direct customers on 1 April and municipal customers on 1 July and is valid for 12 months from the starting date.
Eskom originally asked Nersa to approve an increase of 36% but this was rejected as it would have devastating effects on already struggling households and small businesses.
