NATIONAL NEWS - The Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) is excited to participate in the upcoming Safe Cycling Ride on 22 March in Soweto Thokoza Park.
This event is dedicated to promoting safe cycling practices, raising awareness around road safety, and advocating for sustainable mobility within our communities.
In a meaningful effort to showcase its commitment to transportation beyond automobiles, AA CEO Bobby Ramagwede will personally join the cyclists on this journey, demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to inclusive mobility.
“Mobility is a right for everyone—not just those who drive vehicles. By supporting cycling safety, we are reinforcing our broader mission to make South Africa’s roads safer for all users,” says Ramagwede.
With an anticipated participation of over 200 enthusiastic cyclists, the AA is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all riders by providing:
A professional support team equipped with medical personnel and mechanical assistance to help riders along the route and at strategically located water stations, ensuring hydration and care.
The provision of 50 high-quality helmets, underscoring the essential safety message: “NO HELMET, NO RIDE," to prioritise rider protection and encourage responsible cycling habits.
The presence of 10 elite cyclists outfitted in AA-branded kits that prominently display the inspirational slogan “SHARE THE ROAD,” reinforcing the importance of mutual respect among all road users and fostering a sense of community among participants.
This initiative signifies a transformative moment for the AA, illustrating that the concept of mobility encompasses much more than just cars and taxis.
By actively advocating for cycling as a crucial component of South Africa’s transportation framework, the AA aims to promote not only effective mobility but also a culture of safety, accessibility, and inclusivity on our roads.
“Safe cycling is not just about individual responsibility—it’s about fostering a collective commitment to making our roads safer for everyone,” adds Ramagwede.
