MOSSELBAY NEWS - Last week and the weekend were extremely busy for the Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team (S.M.A.R.T.) as three sub-Antarctic fur seals were monitored by the volunteers on different beaches around Mossel Bay.
One of the seals was named Prince Harry because the English prince got married on Saturday.
These seals are, although not uncommon, very special visitors along our coastline at this time of the year. Their main breeding colony is at Gough Island in the Indian Ocean, approximately 2 700km from Cape Town.
Annually some of them embark on a trip and end up extremely tired on our beaches.

The public is asked to take note of the special features of the seals on the photographs and if an animal is seen on the beach or rocks, please notify S.M.A.R.T. (072 227 4715) immediately.

Sandile Mbeta did the responsible thing and alerted S.M.A.R.T. about the stranded sub-Antarctic fur seal at Munro Bay on Sunday.
"Prince Harry" was reported to be lying on the rocks at the Point early on Saturday morning and the S.M.A.R.T. volunteers monitored him all day. At 18:00 he went back into the ocean to continue his sea trip.
