MOSSEL BAY NEWS - On Sunday afternoon, 2 August, Great Brak River soccer team FC Zobo was officially crowned the Mossel Bay Football Association (Molfa) Promotional League champions.

This follows them winning their last game, against Revolution FC in Ext 23 in Mossel Bay, with a whopping 6-0.

FC Zobo managed a total of 65 points in the league, earning them the crown. Hot on their heels was the youthful Black Aces side, who ended the season as runners-up with their 64 points.

The Great Brak side was formed in 2022 with a bunch of talented players. During their 2023/24 campaign, the team won the Molfa Super League title, securing their place in the promotional league. In the 2024/25 season, FC Zobo finished in the sixth position, but shifted gears to reach the top this time around.

The team has now earned a place in the Safa Eden Inter Local Football Association Promotional Play-offs, which will be kicking off on a later date.

Winning the title

FC Zobo’s head coach, Renoir Fielies, caught up with Mossel Bay Advertiser after the team’s successful season. He said winning means a lot to him personally, because this is his first season as head coach. He had led the team as captain in the past, before making the switch from skipper to manager of the team after he secured his coaching licence.

Fielies said when he looked back on everything they’ve been through this season - the hard work on and off the field, the sacrifices, challenges and commitment from everyone involved - it’s incredible to see it all come together in this moment.

Fielies said he was over the moon when they won the last game. He said the players were committed, disciplined and willing to work hard for one another every week - they had a belief in what they were trying to build and made this success possible.

Fielies said he knew no coach achieves success alone. “This title belongs to the players, coaches and their supporters who stood by them throughout the season.”
