MOSSEL BAY NEWS - An IEC official who was working at the Indwe Secondary School voting station in Mossel Bay has been dismissed.
Mossel Bay Advertiser received reports on Monday 2 November that the official was drunk while they were working at the station, which resulted in some voters receiving only two ballots.
The Western Cape provincial electoral officer, Michael Hendrickse, said the IEC has been made aware of the incident, and that it views this kind of behaviour in a serious light.
“Voting in South Africa is a hard-fought-for right, and the IEC will not tolerate anyone diminishing it. The official involved has been dismissed.”
The voters involved were reportedly eventually able to cast all their votes, aside from one, who is expected to do so tomorrow, 4 November.
