"If it wasn't for education, who knows whether I would have been where I am today", Mr Robin Seabrook of the Garden Route Casino said to the principals of the various schools who received a generous donation from the GRCCT on Tuesday, 3 September. "May the donation be used to create a foothold for the youth of Mossel Bay to get ahead in life".
Learners from five local schools will benefit greatly from the Garden Route Casino Community Trust. Through their commitment to the Department of Education: Eden Central Karoo District, the GRCCT donation will enable even the learners from disadvantaged homes to attend Spring School and prepare for their 'last lap' in preparations for their final Grade 12 exam.
The most recent sponsorship of R78 475 will ensure that the annual Spring School of five local schools will be attended by all the learners, even those who otherwise would not have been able to afford to attend. The donations will be used for food, printing cost and transport of learners who stay more than five kilometres away from the various schools.
The schools received sponsorship based on the number of learners and it amounts to R189 per learner on average. In total, 415 learners will benefit directly from this donation.
With this sponsorship the Garden Route Casino Community Trust contributes towards achieving one of the the strategic objectives of the Western Cape Education Department, namely; " To increase the number and the quality of passes in the National Senior Certificate Examinations"
Principals from Sao Bras, Hillcrest, Great Brak River and Indwe Secondary Schools received generous donations to host this crucial intervention.
