MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Held in Mossel Bay for the first time in 15 years, the SAPS National Lawn Bowls Championships got rolling on Monday, 18 August at the Mossel Bay Bowling Club.
The opening of the championships on Monday saw Mossel Bay Bowling Club President Tekkie van Rensburg hand over the greens to Captain Pragasen Benjaman, the chairperson of the SAPS National Lawn Bowls Club.
Following the handing over of the greens, there were several brief speeches ahead of the start of the championships by Benjaman and Van Rensburg, as well as Stephen Botha, a representative of the Hartenbos Bowling Club, Colonel Douw Herbst from George and Elize Nel, the director of Mossel Bay Municipality's Community Services.

Mossel Bay Police Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ashley Michaels, and Da Gamaskop Acting Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Edy Williams also spoke at the opening, welcoming all the teams from the various provinces to Mossel Bay.
The Western Cape team has two officers of the Mossel Bay Police Station playing for them. This includes the station's support head Captain Joanne Meyer and Constable Ynolan Isaacs.
The five-day championships were held between the Mossel Bay and the Hartenbos clubs, showcasing the beautiful greens and views the town has to offer to the competitors from other provinces.
The last leg of the competition is taking place tomorrow, 22 August at the Mossel Bay Bowling Club.
