MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Ward 9 by-elections will be held on Wednesday, 25 June.
Ward 9 includes D'Almeida, the area around Sao Bras Secondary School, as well as Extension 6, Tarka, Fairview and a portion of De Bakke.
The by-elections follow after the death of Ward 9 councillor, Erica Meyer, on 11 April.
According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), ward 9 will be contested by four candidates - Roderick Damons (ANC), Linda Brown (DA), Bernard October (Independent) and Luhein Prins (PA).
The IEC said there are 4 661 registered voters in ward 9 who are eligible to participate in the by-election. “Importantly, only voters who are registered and reside in ward 9 will be eligible to cast their votes,” it said.
Special votes
Special votes will take place on Tuesday, 24 June. Only voters who applied and have been approved for special voting will be eligible to cast their votes at the voting station on 24 June from 08:00 to 17:00.
Voters who have applied and have received an approval for a home visit because of their confinement due to health reasons to their residence, will be visited by the IEC staff to cast their votes at any time on 24 June between 08:00 and 17:00.
On Wednesday, 25 June, all voting stations will open at 07:00 and close at 21:00. All voters in a queue by the cut off time will be allowed to cast their votes.
Each voter must vote at the voting station of the voting district in which he/she/they is/are registered and must be in possession of either a green barcoded ID book, a smartcard ID, or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate to be allowed to vote.

• D’Almeida Community Hall, c/o Alhof Drive and Mossel Street.
• Sao Bras Secondary School, Skool Street.
• El Shaddai Baptist Church, c/o Kanarie Street and Alhof Drive.

The IEC urged all eligible voters to go out and vote “because voting is one of the easiest ways to make your voice heard”.
The IEC further called on all political parties, their candidates, party agents and members to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct to ensure that voting takes place in an environment conducive to free and fair elections.
