MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Advertiser spoke to Sergeant Mantshadi Mofokeng, a police officer at the Mossel Bay Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) about her enthusiasm for her work and why Women's Day is important.
Describe yourself and your work? I am a person with passion and dedication. I work with vulnerable children and vulnerable women who are abused.
What have you done that has made you most proud? I manage to reach the heart of those most vulnerable, protect them and make sure they are safe and better off. Further, I succeeded in bringing those who abuse women to justice.
How have you tackled challenges in the workplace? The challenges that I experience as a woman and at the workplace is that people don't believe that a woman can do what I am doing. They look down on you and believe there are certain things only men can do. Calmness helped me to overcome this. I choose to remain focused.
Do you feel Women's Day is important? Women's Day is a great achievement to me. I see it as the world recognising there's nothing without a woman: there is no birth and life without a woman. A woman is the mother of life. This day is important because in recognising a woman, you recognise life.
Who have been some inspiring women in your life and why? There's no specific inspiring person. It is those women who strive to make the earth a better place day by day.
How can women's challenges be overcome? Discrimination based on the fact that you are a woman is one challenge. This can only be overcome by implementing educational programmes that are run by women.
What message do you have for women on Women's Day? Mamello e tswala katleho, which means: "patience breeds success".
