MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Eight children of Kids’ Kingdom Primary School in Mossel Bay received their official Guinness World Record medallions on Monday 13 October, handed over by Mossel Bay Mayor Dirk Kotzé on the school’s grounds.
The learners, led by their music teacher, Zelia le Roux, had bettered a world record at the Grand West Arena in Cape Town on Saturday 2 August, for having the most people on stage playing the marimbas simultaneously.
Le Roux had previously told Mossel Bay Advertiser that altogether 1 177 learners had participated in the performance.
The aim was to have over 1 000 people on stage; the previous world record stood at 550.
The eight Kids’ Kingdom learners were Quentin Stander, Alunamda Boyce, Hayley Strydom, Jodene Ellis, Kadey Stander, Meleah Wicombe, Oluthando Andries and Nyakallo Mabena.
The group played a combination of “Waka Waka” by Shakira and Freshly Ground, and “Jerusalema” by Master KG and Nomcebo Zikode.
