MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The dedication of KwaNonqaba Police Station detective, Sergeant Melvin Niemandt, has led to a man being found guilty in three separate court matters relating to domestic violence and his sentencing.
Daniel Taylor (28) was found guilty of the contravention of a protection order and was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, suspended for three years, provided he does not commit a similar offence during those three years.
Taylor violated a protection order by slapping the person. The violation took place in June last year. Taylor was sentenced on 26 February.
That same day, Taylor was handed another six-month sentence, suspended for three years, for the contravention of the protection order through committing common assault.
He also received a third six-month sentence, suspended for three years, also on 26 February this year for threatening the person.
KwaNonqaba Police Station management said it appreciates and commends Niemandt for his "tireless and endless commitment toward ending the scourge of domestic violence".
It noted: "It shows our members take these matters very seriously and are committed to serving the community.
"Sometimes, victims of domestic violence feel they are powerless, but this matter shows that perpetrators are charged, convicted and held accountable," said the station's management.
