MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay local Vinolia Snoek (21) is a finalist in the Junior Miss SA competition.

This is a Pageants SA contest and has nothing to do with the Miss South Africa contest.

Vinolia is one of four national finalists.

She received the news last week that she had been chosen as a finalist in the 18 to 21 age group. Vinolia had to submit a photograph of herself and a video, introducing herself, in order to compete.

She studied at South Cape College and is doing her practical work at EK Primary School in Mossel Bay. Her qualification is a National Diploma in Higher Education. She is teaching Grade Rs.

Vinolia has been modelling for three years. She is the reigning Miss Heritage Mossel Bay, since Heritage Day on 24 September, and she is the Miss Eden SA first runner-up.

Her modelling career began when she entered a competition in which girls had to write their mothers a Mother's Day letter. The competition was presented on Facebook by Gemini Talent and Model Agency owner Frieda van der Walt in Mossel Bay.

Jumped at the opportunity
Vinolia explains that Frieda realised she was passionate about modelling when she met her and asked Vinolia if she would like to become one of her models. Vinolia jumped at the opportunity.

Vinolia says that as part of the Junior Miss SA competition: "I have charity work to do and I need sponsors. I hope people will sponsor me.

"I will be helping at a soup kitchen and raising awareness of violence towards women and children as part of my charity work." Contact Vinolia (074 661 9820) if you would like to sponsor her get involved in her charitable projects.

She notes: "We are approaching the holiday season, when so much violence takes place and children disappear." Vinolia says she is passionate about protecting children from being trafficked.

Carolyn Botha - owner, director and CEO of Pageants SA - says: "The finalists are working in the community and raising funds for community projects. Then they will get together from 6 to 10 April. Each finalist will have a conversation with the judges, who will ask them about themselves and how they hope to use the title to help people.

"They will do ramp walk in jeans and a white T-shirt and then in evening wear. There will be rehearsals and then the crowning."
