MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The 14-year-old girl who was killed when she was hit by a taxi on Louis Fourie Road near Mountain View, Heiderand, on Wednesday afternoon, 22 October, has been identified as Nikki Swemmer.
Her family said they are left devastated by her tragic death, and are unable to pay for her funeral.
Nikki’s mother, Shannon-Leigh Swemmer, said she, Nikki and her two-year-old son had travelled from their home in Kareedouw in the Eastern Cape at the start of October to visit some family in Mountain View.
Nikki was out with her brother and grandmother when the taxi hit her.
The Southern Cape Police’s spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, said the Mossel Bay Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide and driving under the influence. The taxi driver was arrested on the scene and will appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.
Shannon-Leigh said the heartbreak of losing her daughter has left her and her family too emotionally shattered to elaborate at this stage. She now has to start planning her daughter’s funeral, which she says the family cannot afford.
If you would like to support Nikki’s family as they lay her to rest, phone Shannon-Leigh on 063 125 3180 or Johanna Soipie on 062 884 0237. Alternatively, contact Mountain View resident and community activist Lizzie Joubert, who has been providing support to the family, on 076 019 9050.
