MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Three young boxers of Masibulele Boxing, based in Heiderand, were chosen to recently represent the Western Cape at the South African National Boxing Organisation Championships in the North West.
Luniko Mamase (16) of Hillcrest Secondary, Liyakhanya Magxala (16) of the Olympia Skills School in George and Asenathi Dyabaza (16) of Sao Bras Secondary were these three boxers.
Masibulele Boxing’s coach, Lungile Singama, said while he was proud these three had been selected to compete, having made it through several local and regional competitions to make it to the championships, he was disappointed that Asenathi and Liyakhanya ended up not being allowed to compete.
There was an issue with their medical clearance and they were informed they were unable to participate. Luniko did not fight in her final match, either, as the competitor had withdrawn from the fight.
Singama said although the championships did not go as they had hoped, he has full confidence that all three, as well as his other trainees, will be competing in next year’s championships.
He said there will be a local boxing competition next Saturday, 25 October.
The venue is yet to be confirmed. Seven boxers, four girls and three boys, of the Garden Route Boxing Club Academy based in KwaNonqaba also competed in the championships.
Mossel Bay Advertiser will catch up with these boxers and find out how they fared in next week’s edition.
