KWANONQABA NEWS - A church in the 7de Laan informal settlement in KwaNonqaba, Mossel Bay, has urgently requested that residents and other members of the community refrain from dumping household waste, rubble or other items on the church's premises.
In a recent post shared to the KwaNonqaba News & Business Matters Facebook group, the church wrote that children play on its premises on a daily basis.
The presence of waste creates an unsafe and unsanitary environment for the com-munity, it said.
The church listed its concerns and possible hazards due to the waste being close to where these children play, and which disrupts visitors' access to the building.
These included the dangers of broken glass and other sharp objects, the presence of flies and rats, the potential spreading of diseases as well as the unpleasant smell created by the waste.
The community is urged to make use of the correct municipal bins and dumping sites available in the area, and to report any instances of improper dumping to the relevant authorities.
"The church must pay to clean what others dump. Let's protect our children and keep our community clean. Thank you for respecting God's house and our kids' safety," concludes the Facebook post.
