Personally invited by the mayor of Mossel Bay, Franna started off the day's proceedings with a strong swing of his club, handed to him by his proud father, Pieter Ferreira.
Franna has spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy. He is also is on the autism spectrum.
The mayor met Franna at a function for those with disabilities, in which it was discussed how Mossel Bay could be made more accessible for those with disabilities, and the mayor invited him to open the golf day.
World record bid
Also in attendance was Lukas Korff, who will attempt to break a world record at 16:00 at today's event. He will be standing about 250m away from a golfer and will attempt to catch the golfer's ball from that distance.
The sixth annual Mayoral Golf Day took place at the Mossel Bay Golf Club. Those in attendance and participating in the game, including Mayor Dirk Kotzé, all sported noticeable pink T-shirts.
Franna (21) was all smiles at the event and confidently stated that he was not nervous and felt great.
Franna has been playing golf for five years. He does not belong to a specific golf club, but rather practises with his father.
Author and preacher
A 19-time world record holder, author and a preacher, Lukas Korff says: “I am an evangelist first and use my crazy life experiences and world records to motivate people to aspire to better and improved living. I work hard to inspire others to share the word, using the powerful principles I have learned during the process of attempting to break these various world records.”
A proud parent, Lukas says his two children, aged 10 and 12, also hold world records of their own.
Lukas will attempt to break a world record as part of a competition that will also be a fundraiser for the Mayoral Fund at the golf day.
The Mayoral Relief and Charitable Fund is used for various causes, such as for young people who are chosen to represent their school at provincial level, but cannot afford necessities and travelling costs, instances where homes have burnt down and a family is left destitute and NGOs which require assistance with various projects to uplift the community.
