MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Municipality was requested by Eskom today, 13 January, to implement load limiting measures in terms of NRS 048:9 in areas previously not affected by load-shedding.
NRS 048:9 is a code of practice that provides a national protocol for the management of system emergencies during severe load constraints to prevent blackouts.
Due to recent upgrades to infrastructure, the municipality is now able to isolate substations under its management which could not be done previously.
Mossel Bay Municipality will therefore conduct switching operations in conjunction with Eskom on certain municipal networks to further reduce the demand in areas that were previously not affected by load-shedding.
Following discussions with Eskom this afternoon, load limiting will commence next week.
The municipality apologises for the short notice.
The commencement date will be communicated on Monday, 16 January. However, discussions with Eskom are ongoing to remedy the situation and lessen the expected impact.
Residents and business owners are advised to make provision for the possibility of load limiting being implemented.
Should load limiting be implemented, the areas newly affected are those supplied by the Mossel Bay South Substation, which includes but is not limited to:
- Mossel Bay CBD
- Da Nova
- D’Almeida
- Mossel Bay Golf Course
- Parts of Heiderand
Mossel Bay Municipality will isolate the Mossel Bay South, 66/11kV substation at Da Nova.
This arrangement will be in place for all levels of load-shedding as announced by Eskom, until further notice.
It is not excluded that critical infrastructure pertaining to water supply and sewerage management dependent on electricity supply from the Mossel Bay South 66/11kV Substation, will be affected.
Therefore, the municipality urges residents to use water sparingly on a voluntary basis.
