MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Taxi Association says it is not part of the planned national shutdown that could take place on Friday, 10 June.
News of a possible national shutdown surfaced online this week as taxi fares are set to increase following the recent spike in fuel prices.
The Dana Bay Neighbourhood Watch has confirmed that voice notes about a so-called meeting yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 8 June, at the Asla Park Taxi Rank, are untrue. “Please do not circulate unverified messages or voice messages,” the neighbourhood watch said.

Vice chairman of the Mossel Bay Taxi Association Gappie Brandt told the Mossel Bay Advertiser taxi drivers plan to continue with work on Friday, 10 June, as per usual.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp, says police are aware of the messages circulating on social media about a possible strike and possible riots.
"The South African Police Service cannot confirm the rumours but we have plans in place to combat any possible threat.
"The general public is asked to be proactive and report any threats immediately."
"The public is further asked to make use of neighbourhood watch social groups and local radio stations to get any first-hand warnings that would be issued by the authorities if necessary.
"The police stations in the greater Mossel Bay area are KwaNonqaba (044 606 5606), Mossel Bay (044 606 2800) and Da Gamaskop (044 606 2201).
