Ex-policeman, academic turns his findings into a book

GARDEN ROUTE | HESSEQUA NEWS - A Southern Cape local, Hennie Lochner, who has a doctorate in policing, has brought out a book about cash in transit heists.

Lochner was employed at UNISA for 10 years and wrote his doctoral thesis on cash in transit robberies and the modus operandi thereof. He said he was encouraged by UNISA to study while he was in its employ.

He turned his thesis into a "story book", as he describes it. Lochner says: "But it still has academic information. I promise you that you won't want to put it down. The book makes the reader part of the scene."

The book answers questions, such as: Why do heists take place at certain places and times? How do criminals manage to corrupt policemen, judges and magistrates? What is the involement of women in heists?

Lochner certainly has the credentials to write such a book. He was a policeman for 30 years and at one stage held the office of provincial commander of all murder and robbery units in Limpopo Province, called Northern Province at that time.

He believes his book will be of value to those in law enforcement, the legal profession, cash in transit companies and to clients of cash in transit companies, as well as to banks.
