ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - An "historical" programme of lieder will be performed in George this Sunday, 23 July.
"Historical", because it will be the first time that the Petracha Sonnets for voice and piano by Franz Liszt will be performed in South Africa.
The programme will also include other lieder by Lizt, as well as works from Rachmaninoff's Opus 4, 14 and 21.
The artists are soprano Anina Wasserman, who is no stranger to George audiences, Pianist Eugene Joubert and cellist Gerrit Koorsen.
The concert, which is brought to you by the George Music Society, will take place at 15:30 at the Dotsure George Arts Theatre.

Anina Wasserman has performed in George a number of times. She is a popular freelance opera/solo singer with a great repertoire, including performances as Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor and Violetta in La Traviata.
She obtained her music degree cum laude and furthered her studies in Germany, Italy and the USA.
Eugene Joubert has established himself as a pianist of note. He made his international debut at the Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts in Washington DC in May 2007. Other international performances include recitals in Denmark as part of the SA Opera Ensemble as well as concerts in Switzerland, Bulgaria, Romania and many more. He has performed as accompanist for many operatic productions.
He obtained a masters degree at the University of Pretoria as well as a Masters in Collaborative Piano from Rice's University's Shepherd School of Music in Houston, Texas. He is now head of piano at St Mary's School in Waverley.
Gerrit Koorsen studied cello with Tilla Henkins, Arend Brink and Michael Hauler. He performs as a freelance cellist and soloist for many symphony and other orchestras in Gauteng and is an active chamber musician.
He is a founding member of the Pangea String Quartet based in Johannesburg and has performed in many festivals and contributed to many albums for other musicians. Apart from his life as a cellist, Gerrit is a research scientist with a PhD in biochemistry.
